Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)
Using observation, data collection, and analysis of behavioral patterns, an FBA informs the IEP team about the function, or purpose, of a target behavior.Â

Vital Behavior Services offers an FBA with these components:

  • Interview of parents and school staff regarding current details about the behavior, history of the behavior, and perceived predictors prior to the onset of the target behavior.
  • Observation of the student in his/her natural environment
  • Data collection on the target behavior, including training for the data collectors (usually parents, classroom teachers, aides, and related service providers)
  • Analysis of the collected data by the Behavior Analyst
  • Behavior Analyst defines the purpose of the behavior
  • Written report to be presented to the IEP team
